Bluestem Heating & Cooling was born during a season of change, the kind that reshapes your priorities and reminds you what really matters.

For more than two decades, Jason built his career in the HVAC trade, serving homeowners throughout Lawrence and the surrounding communities. Over time, he came to value steady work, honest conversations, and the responsibility that comes with being welcomed into someone’s home. When the way the work was done began to change, he felt pulled back toward something simpler and more personal. He wanted a way of serving customers that felt right and worth standing behind.

At the same time, Rebecca was navigating her own crossroads. After years managing a local business and preparing to step into ownership, those plans unexpectedly fell through. It was disappointing, but also clarifying. Instead of waiting for the right opportunity, they decided to create it themselves.

That question became the beginning of Bluestem. Many evenings were spent around the table as a family, shaping the name and imagining what the business could become.

Named after the Kansas state grass, Bluestem reflects resilience, roots, and steady growth. As lifelong Kansans, we chose a name that reflects pride in where we are from and a commitment to building something lasting here at home.

From the start, the goal was simple. We wanted to build a local HVAC company people could truly trust.

Today, Bluestem Heating & Cooling serves homeowners throughout Lawrence and Northeast Kansas with heating and cooling repairs, system replacements, preventative maintenance, and indoor air quality solutions.

We did not start Bluestem to be the biggest company in the area.
